Instructions

  • To properly use a CAB custom wind chart, you will need to know the wind velocity and vector (the direction from which its coming).

  • Wind velocity can be estimated using the Wind Flag Diagram or the Wind Speed Estimating guide. An electronic wind meter will provide more accurate information.

  • The direction of the wind should be estimated using the positions of a clock; i.e., if it’s directly from the right it’s from 3:00 o’clock, directly from behind it’s 6:00 o’clock, directly into your face it’s from 12:00 o’clock.

  • With these two numbers, you’re ready to use the Custom Wind Chart.

Using the Custom Wind Chart

"X" represents the position of the shooter. "Y" indicates the position of the target.

The concentric rings represent wind velocity (4 mph, 8 mph, 12 mph, 16 mph & 20 mph). The velocity for each ring is indicated on the 12:00 o’clock and 6:00 o’clock radials.

Select the appropriate velocity ring.

Select the appropriate clock position the wind is coming from.

The sight correction for this combination of conditions (velocity and wind direction) is indicated at the intersection of the velocity ring and the radial of the clock position.

Example

  1. Conditions are: 16 mph wind coming from 2:00.

  2. Select the 16 mph wind velocity ring.

  3. Identify the clock position (2:00 o’clock) that the wind is coming from.

  4. From the "2" (representing 2:00 o’clock), move towards the center to the 16 mph velocity ring.

  5. The number within the appropriate circle (19) represents the number of clicks to adjust your sights or scope.
